This is a special one titled “Sometimes It Will Do”
Special for a few reasons:

  1. The lyrics were written by my cousin Jordan Forst (aka Phil Medley). I normally come up with at least the start of lyrics as I’m writing the song which splits by brain between music, melody, and lyrics simultaneously. So, to write this one with these beautiful lyrics completed and in front of me, it allowed for a totally different writing process which I think resulted in something different (for me) that I’m really proud of. 
  2. I’m SO excited that my good friend Zach Pollakoff – aka Narrow Shoulders – was kind enough to remix this song and it’s included in the release. I absolutely love what he created. He transformed it into something totally different that’s super rad. Narrow Shoulders is based out of Burlington, VT – check him out.
  3. My brother, Josh Clark, plays drums on the main version of this song. His playing is absolutely perfect for this song. Also FYI – Josh is the drummer for The Low Glow as well as my band, The Long Furs.

What initially inspired me to write Hosed was a kids pin art toy, actually. The sound it makes when you reset the pins is just so great! So I immediately put together the rhythm track and started writing to that. The subject matter of the song speaks to that feeling we’ve all felt at some point or another. Whether it’s gas prices, long lines at an outlet store, a dollar store with prices well above a dollar, or the price of medical bills, sometimes we can tend to feel hosed… 

The recording features Mick Sullivan from Squeeze-bot on banjo, and I’m playing everything else. Mick is also an author, the creator of “The Past and The Curious” history podcast, and an all around swell guy. The second track is an alternate mix of “Hosed” that simplifies instrumentation down to mainly banjo, bass and drums, and features a different guitar solo section. Lastly, I included a song that I recorded over 7 years ago as the B-Side, “You Don’t Have To Walk Alone.”
